Dr. John Chileshe holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Zambia (UNZA) and an M.A. and Ph.D. in African Studies from Sussex University in England. He has previously served as a Lecturer, Researcher, Consultant and Administrator at UNZA. During his eleven years at UNZA, from 1991 to 2002, he was Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. John’s desire to contribute to civil society development is premised on the potential for civil society to deepen its role in advocacy for accountability in both the public and private spheres, in order to maximise benefits to the wider society. This role is constrained by institutional capacity weaknesses and lack of financial sustainability for effective participation in, and influence of, national policy formulation and implementation. The potential of civil society in policy dialogue can be actualised through the kind of financial and technical support that ZGF provides. John contributes to civil society development working as consultant and facilitator for several national and international civil society organisations and with donor agencies, in support of civil society. John is works as an independent Consultant.
